Proposed designation as a global systemically important insurer
Prudential plc notes today’s announcement from the Financial Stability Board that the Group has been designated as a global systemically important insurer. The Group will be in discussions with the Prudential Regulation Authority to understand the implications of this designation. Once sufficient clarity has been established, the Group will determine its position, taking into account the interests of both our policyholders and our shareholders.
Prudential is an international financial services group in existence for 165 years, with significant operations in Asia, the US and the UK serving around 24 million insurance customers and with £405 billion of assets under management (as at 31 December, 2012). We are listed on stock exchanges in London, Hong Kong, Singapore and New York. Prudential is a strongly capitalised group with an estimated IGD surplus of £4.0 billion as at 31 March, 20131.
